Carpet appearance alone cannot establish whether the layer below it is dry or what contacted it. An independent provider should evaluate the actual carpet, padding and underlying floor.
What facts matter to the material decision?
Ask the assessor about the source, duration and materials reached. EPA's flood guidance says materials that absorb much water and cannot be cleaned and dried should be discarded. That condition does not automatically decide every smaller clean-water event; request a documented reason for keeping or replacing each layer.
Why distinguish extraction from replacement?
Removing visible water, evaluating padding and installing new carpet are different tasks. The Save The Day regional commercial guide lists carpet removal and installed replacement separately. If a proposal combines them, ask where each charge begins and ends. The estimate guide helps compare the scope with another bid.
Stay away from the affected area, do not touch electrical switches, outlets or appliances near water, and call a professional. If anyone is in danger, leave the area and call 911.
Can the calculator classify wet carpet?
No. Its optional carpet area uses published material price components, but it does not inspect an underlay or identify the water category. Enter only an area already known from safe records; do not step into the affected room to measure it.
